Arepa

Arepa Cafe is lovely and modern and perfect for lunch on a cold day. Arepa serves up (Venezuelan) corn meal bread with fillings. We think of it as cornbread with taco filling. Delicious!

You’re given three sauce squeeze bottles for your corn bread: garlic mayo, green pepper sauce (watery like tabasco) and >:O hot sauce. Let us tell you that the hot sauce is like dynamite in your mouth. And how did we learn that it’s dynamite? Kran cavalierly squeezed the red liquid fire all over his cornbread before taking a big bite into it. Only small drops after that.

Kran had really wanted to take me to Arepa to try one of the cookies there, so cookie it was for dessert. But it was no ordinary cookie, it was an alfajor! It is made up of two crumbly lemony cookies sandwiching dulce de leche – a thick and creamy milky caramel. Wow, it completely blew me away!

Arepa = wonderful comfort food, Venezuelan style.
