Here are some snippets from my birthday this year when Kran took me to Red Hill. Red Hill is just over an hour’s drive away from Melbourne towards the west.
I always complain that my birthday is in the middle of winter when it’s wet and miserable, but I wouldn’t let that dampen my spirits as we packed our bags and drove off in the pouring rain. (Is it just me or is it harder to pack for short stays than long stays? I feel like I’m much more ruthless when I need to pack for long trips!)
Arriving in the afternoon, we decided to stop at Johnny Ripe to have lunch. It’s a cute little bakery which was a super cosy place to escape the rain. The outdoor area would be so relaxing to lounge in summer, but we did have a mosey along the wet grass anyway.
Apparently Johnny Ripe is famous for their homemade pies so we had to test them out!
Yup, they’re famous for a reason! We’ll definitely be coming back!
We stayed at the Polperro Winery in one of their villas that had a king spa, a big bucket lounge in front of the fireplace and a view of the winery. It was actually really nice and cosy in winter, having the fire on, soaking in the spa and relaxing in our villa watching Hannibal on DVD.

^^ We had warm feet in front of this fire!
